If possible have a discussion with the veterinarian who provides health care to the pit bull parents. You can check whether the breeder is registered with UKC and /or ADBA. Mere registration can not be considered as full proof certification because this registration does not require genetic testing.
The puppy should not have any skin problems. The puppy should not be seen scratching. Check the fur completely for any patches or flea infestation. The puppy should not have any discharges from the nose, ear or eye. There should not be any red tracks in the eye of the puppy. Possibly it is infected with deadly parvo virus. Not worth taking a risk.
The puppy should be energetic and walk or run without any difficulty. The puppy should be well nourished. You can also have check on the food provided to the puppy.
