Pit Bull Dogs and Home Insurance

If you are a home owner with a pit bull dog, or are considering getting a pit bull, you may be aware that your pet could affect your home insurance. Here are some things to consider.

American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers are some of the more popular breeds commonly referred to as pit bulls. Many home insurance companies consider these dogs as a potential liability risk because their owners are often held accountable by law if the dog injures a person. When you purchase a homeowners insurance policy, you receive a certain amount of liability coverage to help pay for lawsuits filed against you.

According to the Insurance Information Institute, dog bites cost the property and casualty insurance industry about $317.2 million in 2005. Because insurers consider certain breeds of dog as a higher risk for a claim, they will often charge higher home insurance rates for pit bull owners.

However, the thing to realize is that each insurance company determines their rates and underwriting guidelines based on several factors that may be unique to that company. Thus rates -- as well as tolerance for accepting dogs -- can vary quite a bit from company to company. So whether you already own a pit bull, or are planning on getting one, you should get some comparison home insurance quotes. The Insurance Information Institute recommends getting at least three different quotes.

This is easy to do online by requesting quotes from different company Web sites. Or you may want to use an insurance comparison site. These sites don't represent one company. Instead, you only need to fill out one online quote form, then you get several different quotes back. These sites often use independent agents who will work to find you the lowest quotes.

To further lower your homeowner insurance costs, consider raising your deductible as well as taking advantage of any available discounts.

And finally, the Insurance Information Institute recommends being proactive in reducing your chances of dog bite liability. They recommend spaying or neutering your pet, learning how to maintain control of your dog and properly socializing him or her so they know how to act around other people and animals. Also, talk to a vet about ways to reduce aggressive behavior.

How To Prevent PitBull Chasing a Bicycle?

Out walking, your pit bull may return obediently to heel most of the time, but if a bicycler or jogger appears on the horizon, its predatory instinct is triggered and the pursuit begins. This behavior is really a big problem for the owners. They may approach the vet or a dog trainer to modify the behavior. But you ought to do some simple training to your pit bull to modify this hatred behavior.

1. Your Pit Bull should have two sessions of strenuous daily exercise on a long line (9ft/3m).

2. You should give him obedience and agility training to challenge her mentally and provide an additional physical outlet. You should play retrieving games and give him toys such as puzzle feeders when he's alone.

3. You should teach her the "leave" command by slowly propelling a toy across the floor, and rewarding him when he comes straight to them rather than pursuing the toy.

4. When a bicycler appears, your pit bull should be given the command to "leave". A ball should be thrown in the opposite direction for him to chase, and should be rewarded every time she obeys.

5. If you cannot find extra time to look after pit bull and keep him stimulated, you should consider parting with him.

Pit bull Training- Is it Necessary?

Do you know pit bulls are very faithful unlike other dogs? But there are news about pit bull mauling due to the fact that they can become restless and rowdy, if they haven't given proper training.

A survey confirms that approximately 3 to 4 cases of pit bull biting a year is recorded. Lack of pit bull training is the main cause for such act. In real, pit bulls are good mannered and very much adorable dog after examining the attack frequency and records of biting in comparison to other species.

If the pup is separated at very younger age from their parents, there is every possibility of becoming as a rude dog. hence the weaning should be done only after eight weeks from the parents. Another factor which may provoke aggression among the pit bull is keeping them in an isolated place and are not allowed to play with children or other animals.

Hence socialization and proper training will help them to grow as a proud dog as other breeds. Now it is in the hands of the owner how to mold a pit bull - an aggressive one or a perfect socialization dog.

Ad Junked After Company Receives Thousands of E-Mails From PETA Members About the Cruelty of Chaining Dogs

A bouquet of flowers from PETA with a heartfelt thank-you note is on its way to Verizon's executive headquarters in Basking Ridge, N.J. That's because the communications giant has pulled a cell phone ad that had the animal rights group--and dog lovers across the country--howling mad. The ad featured two growling, chained pit bulls guarding a junkyard. PETA contacted Verizon about the ad's damaging message after PETA's phones began ringing off the hook with complaints from across the country, but Verizon failed to respond. So PETA issued an action alert, which generated more than 7,000 e-mails to Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg and the company's executive director of media relations, Brenda Raney. Two days after PETA contacted Verizon, the company pulled the ad.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was a breed which was developed in the early days by crossing the bulldog with the terriers of the day. This produced a dog with a tenacious bite and seemingly limitless endurance for punishment. As early as the 1500s bull baiting and bear baiting was a "sport" in the British Isles. In modern times this has been abolished, but unscrupulous persons still participate in "pit fights" where dogs are pitted against each other and bets are placed. This is still going on in many parts of the world, even though the participants in most places are subject to heavy fines and jail terms.

Unfortunately because of the reputation of the pitbull types of dogs, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier has joined the ranks of those dogs which are outlawed in many communities. The truly bred Staffordshire Bull Terrier is less common, however, than the Pitbull Terrier and is bred by responsible breeders as a show dog. This has protected its existence somewhat, as many breeders will sell only to other breeders or on contracts that the dogs be spayed or neutered.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is one of the breeds which was originally bred to be a fighting dog. It has become more refined from the earlier specimens which were generally a mixed lot in appearance. The appearance of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is blocky. The dog has the easy care short smooth coat common to these breeds and minimal care is needed to keep him clean. Colors can be red, fawn, white, black or blue, or any of these colors with white, or any shade of brindle or any shade of brindle with white. The skull is short and deep with pronounced cheek muscles making the head appear quite chunky. Ears are rose ears or half prick and small. The tail is not docked and of medium length. The front is broad with a deep chest and legs should be straight and not bowed as those of the Bulldog . The dog should be of medium size, standing 14-16 inches at the shoulder and weighing 28-30 pounds. If kept in good condition, this s a dog that can run for hours and makes a perfect joggers companion.

There are few genetic conditions. One of the benefits of the dogs' genetic inheritance is that its skin is tough and the dog is tough. Any wounds heal quickly and there are usually very few reasons for a Staffordshire Bull Terrier to visit the vet. Today the Staffordshire Bull has a uniform appearance and is being bred by true fanciers of the breed as a show dog and household companion. This particular breed generally has none of the qualities of aggression towards people that is sometimes exhibited by many of the other breeds of the "pitbull" origin. If brought up responsibly and socialized with people at a young age this breed is considered a wonderful companion for children. With its tail always wagging and its face always "smiling" the Staffordshire Bull will allow any amount of mauling from the children in the household and is an easygoing and friendly pet. He is generous in nature and forgiving, easy to train and willing to please.

Pit Bull Separation Anxiety

Some of my clients have complained that their eight week old pit bull puppy is crying through out the night. I mean... ALL NIGHT! You can hear the crying sound of your beloved puppy, once you have closed the gate. Some of the puppies will cry through out the night. This implies that your puppy is suffering from separation anxiety. Yes, you need to ignore it, don't yell.

Most of us think that separation anxiety is a poor dog health condition. No... you can easily manage this perturbing condition by following the following tips...

Your pup need to sleep in bed with you. The pit bull puppy likes to cuddle, and also the puppy wants to be held all the time. Maybe yours just wants to be with you, not alone.

Most puppies whine when they are alone at night, because they were used to being with their litter mates and mother. Once you have separated the puppy from its litter mate, this problem of whining will persist for couple of days.

If he's simply left alone in your home all day, he will sleep; then when you get home from work tired, he is a quivering, leaping dynamo of excess energy. So he/she will be active during the night and will create problem of crying in the night.

A simple idea is that fix a tick-tock clock. The sound made the pup to get sleep without crying.Make sure to give him a long walk every night about 30 minutes before he goes to bed so he gets tired.

Also, make sure he has a nice place to sleep on. A blanket, something soft, etc. A large stuffed toy might also be good for your puppy to snuggle up to at night. Good luck!

How to Know if Your Dog's Diet Contains Enough Fatty Acid

Does your pet's skin and coat look shiny and healthy, or is your dog's fur lacking the silky appearance you prefer? Could this indicate the need for more fatty acids in your dog's diet?

A dog's diet affects all aspects of his body including the skin and coat. If your dog's diet contains adequate amounts of fatty acids, his coat and skin should appear healthy. Fatty acids in your dog's diet will prevent trouble with dry skin and dandruff, for example. A dull coat may indicate a need for supplements of fatty acids in your dog's diet.

Studies indicate that essential fatty acids, called EFAs, contribute to healthy skin and coat, as well as general health. Omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, for instance, can play a critical role in your dog's overall well being.

Do not assume that adding fatty acid supplements to your dog's diet is always a good idea. If your dog's coat is in good condition, adding more EFAs will not automatically improve health. The fatty acid supplements, such as omega 3 and 6, are only for dog's with diagnosed skin problems. Always consult your veterinarian before adding a supplement to your dog's diet. Your vet will be happy to discuss with you the best form of EFAs and the appropriate dose to add to your dog's diet.

Fatty acids are not produced by your dog's body. For this reason, You must provide EFAs to your pet through your dog's diet. If your vet recommends additional supplements of fatty acids, you may want to ask about linseed or sunflower oil.

Within as little as four weeks, you should notice an improvement in your dog's coat and skin. Watch the wonder of fatty acids at work in your dog's diet. By the time seven weeks have passed, you will notice a dramatic change in your pet's health.

High levels of omega 3 fatty acids are thought to ward off some forms of cancer. Cardiovascular health and joint health will improve, as well, with higher levels of omega 3 in your dog's diet.

Typically, omega 6 fatty acids are present in manufactured dog food at adequate levels. Supplementing omega 3 will help to improve the ratio and make the difference for your pet. Fish and flax seed are excellent sources of omega 3 fatty acids. Again, be cautious and ask your vet before supplementing. Some forms of fish may not be safe as part of your dog's diet.

Supplementing your dog's diet may or may not be necessary. The only sure way to decide if your dog's diet needs extra essential fatty acids is to schedule an appointment with your vet to talk about your pet's health. Never medicate your dog without advice from a professional because your dog's diet must contain the proper balance of nutrients. Sources of EFAs include flaxseed, linseed, and sunflower oil. Higher doses of essential fatty acids can improve skin and coat issues within several weeks. Your dog's diet is the first step in providing your overall health and a happy life with your pet for years to come.

Tips on Pitbull Housebreaking

Housebreaking builds on your young pit bull pup's natural instinct not to foul the communal sleeping area. To carry it out successfully, you need patience, persistence, and understanding of your puppy's needs.

An 8-week-old pit bull puppy urinates approximately every two hours during the day. It empties its bowels three to six times a day, depending on the sort of diet it is receiving-an easily digestible diet, low in bulk, is best.

Housebreaking should start as early as possible. Place the puppy on a sheet of newspaper when it seems ready to go and be lavish with praise when it succeeds.

  • Let your pit bull puppy sleep in its crate until it goes all night without needing to relieve itself.
  • Never punish it when it has an accident indoors--it will only make it anxious.
  • Always praise or reward your puppy when it relieves outdoors.
  • Use a phrase such as as "there you go" when it is preparing to perform. This will encourage it to perform on command--useful when you are in a hurry or traveling with your puppy.
  • Do not carry your puppy outside. Go with it, but let it make its own way to the door.
  • Learn to recognize the signs that your puppy wants to go outside. Many puppies will circle and sniff around.

Your Pit Bull's Diet: Canned Dog Food vs. Dry Kibble

A dog's diet affects every aspect of their health and well being. You undoubtedly want only the very best for your furry friend. When it comes to choosing the best for your dog's diet, you have so many options available. It can be hard to determine which food will have the most positive effect on your dog's diet and health. Which is better, canned dog food or dry kibble?

The debate between canned dog food and kibble has continued since the two varieties have been on the market. What are the advantages of canned dog food as the main component of your dog's diet? Is dry kibble superior to canned dog food? Possibly, it is simply personal preference between the two varieties.

To help you decide, let's take a look at the advantages of each type of dog food as part of a healthy and balanced diet for your pet. To get the best advice, schedule a visit with the veterinarian to discuss your dog's diet. The two of you can talk about how each type of dog food will specifically relate to your pet.

Canned dog food, as the main component of your dog's diet, has gotten a negative stigma over the years. Many pet owners feel that the cost of canned dog food is high and unappealing, especially for the larger breeds who require greater amounts of food daily.

A significant advantage of canned dog food is the quality. Frequently, you will find that canned dog food offers large chunks of real meat for your pet. Fewer additives and fillers are found in most brands of canned dog food. Knowing the importance of high-quality ingredients, canned dog food certainly has its place in a healthy, balanced dog diet.

Another advantage of canned dog food in your dog's diet is palatability. Dogs will commonly take to canned dog food quickly. This can be a true advantage when you are dealing with a picky eater.

Dogs who have trouble with oral health and chewing will find the moist food easier to eat. If you note your dog is struggling to eat the kibble diet, then canned dog food may be just the solution to your dog's diet problems.

Dry kibble also has advantages in a dog's diet. The dry kibble helps to keep your dog's teeth healthy by removing plaque and tartar. Excellent oral health for your pet can be easily maintained with dry kibble as the main component in your dog's diet. The moist dog food from cans do not provide the same benefit.

Storage of the dry kibble does not require refrigeration after opening. This can make traveling with your pet easier and more convenient.

Cost is yet another reason to consider dry kibble for your dog's diet. High-quality dry dog food is available to pet owners at a reasonable price.

Whether you choose dry kibble or canned dog food, you will always want to talk over the issue with your veterinarian. Canned food is great for picky eaters and pet's with difficulty chewing. Canned food offers high quality ingredients for your dog's diet. Dry kibble is inexpensive and helps promote good oral health. Providing your pet with the best nutrition is the first step in caring for your pet.

How You Can Help End Pit Bull Puppy Mills?

1. Find a responsible breeder and visit their premises.

Responsible breeders provide a loving and healthy environment for their canine companions, but don't take their word for it. Never buy a puppy without seeing where they and their parents are raised and housed with your own eyes.

2. Don't be fooled by common claims made by pet stores when pushing their puppies.

Despite what they may tell you, pet stores do sell puppy mill puppies.

3. Don't be swayed by a great website or ad.

Just because a website says great things about their "home raised" or "family raised" puppies doesn't make it true. Many puppy millers pose as small family breeders online and in newspaper and magazine ads.

4. Consider Adoption

Adopting a dog instead of buying one is the surest way to strike a blow against puppy mills. To find the perfect match, you'll want to choose the right one for you and your lifestyle. Animal shelters have dozens of dogs, many of them purebreds, just waiting for homes.

5. Avoid the temptation to "rescue" a puppy mill puppy by buying him.

Even though your intentions may be good, don't buy a puppy with the idea that you are "rescuing" him or her. Your "rescue" opens up space for another poor puppy mill puppy and puts money into the pockets of the puppy mill. Pet stores won't leave their cages empty and websites won't leave their pages blank. The money you spend on your puppy goes right back to the puppy mill operator and ensures they can continue breeding and treating dogs inhumanely.

If you see someone keeping puppies in poor conditions, alert your local animal control authorities instead of buying.

Pit Bull Heart Worms: How To Prevent?

Beef flavored chunks are available in addition to the beef flavored tablets or solutions that can be given orally to the pitbulls as a measure against the incidence of heart worms. Avoid mosquito bites by providing proper mosquito-proof shelter facilities to the pit bulls.

Just plan whether there is any need to go for the heart worm prevention though out the year or only in some months of the year. For example, in case of some countries, the mosquitoes may be dormant in most of the colder months.

However, in some countries, this is not a position. Many a times, medications are available for oral administration to prevent heart worms along with hookworms etc. Such oral medications need to be taken as per the instructions. However, be cautious about the occurrence of any adverse drug reactions in the pit bull given with such prophylactic therapy.

Adverse event reports need to be sent if you come across any sorts of adverse drug reactions in your pitbull during the preventive treatment.

Soft beef flavored tablets are highly preferred by the pet animals as the preventive measure against heart worms. The pet owner needs to consult a veterinarian if the dose for the prophylaxis of heart worm is missed for few months. In such occasions, the pitbull needs to undergo the heart worm test.

Heartgard, sentinel, interceptor, revolution, etc. are available in the commercial fields as drugs for the preventive measure. Avoid water stagnation around the dog shelter and the bushes around the area that facilitate mosquito breeding. This test needs to be carried out in consultation with a veterinarian who is specialized in the pet animal health care and medicine.

As a preventive measure for the heart worms, the pitbulls need to be tested for the evidence of these worms at an age of six months. Real beef chew able tablets are available containing medical agent like ivermectin.

Pitbull Nutrition - Proper Nutrition For a Healthy Pitbull

Many pet owners tend to ignore the importance of pitbull nutrition. This should not be case since nutrition is not something that should be taken for granted, even if it is for your pets. Anyone who owns a pitbull or for that matter any pet should remember that nutrition is a science and it makes sense not to rely on pure instinct. In fact proper nutrition can help you save on the vet's bills in the long run.

Pitbull nutrition is an important aspect, since their diet too can be as complex as that of human beings. As an owner it is therefore absolutely essential that you take care of all their essential nutrition needs. The diet for a pitbull should consist of all the essential nutrients, minerals and vitamins. Deficiency of certain nutrients can lead to various conditions such as brittle bone or general fatigue. A balanced diet, full of essential nutrients therefore should be your aim when it comes to feeding your pitbull. Remember, the right diet is your pitbull's shield against disorders and diseases.

The pre-packaged food available for pets would cover most of the nutritional needs of your pitbull. Before you buy any such pet food make sure that you go through the ingredients in detail. This would give you a good idea about the various constituents of the pet food. You can base your purchase decision based on the nutritional value of particular pre-packaged pet foods.

Another important aspect that you need to take care of when it comes to pitbull nutrition is the taste. These dogs are known to like varied taste and you can therefore try mixing different types of foods. This way you can also ensure that the pitbull diet that you are providing is varied in texture, nutritional value and ingredients. Make sure that you include a serving of bone as part of their diet. This is because dogs are basically carnivores and therefore love chewing on a bone.

A substantial part of pitbull nutrition should consist of meat. This crucial component of the diet is what gives them the nutrients that are needed to grow. This apart, a pitbull would also need lots of fiber and carbohydrates which would aid in the process of digestion, along with giving them energy.

You can also experiment with some servings of vegetables, from time to time, when it comes to pitbull nutrition. There are some dogs which are known to love vegetarian food too. This would also mean a balanced diet, full of vitamins and minerals.

Lyme disease is one of the emerging communicable disease among the citizens of NewYork State. This disease is caused by bacteria and affects the animals and human beings by means of the bite of an infected deer tick. A research confirms that nearly 50% of the ticks are infected with bacteria.

This infection begins in the months of June and July and continues through summer to fall.
How to Prevent Pit Bull Lyme Disease?

Check your pit bull for ticks after coming in from a walk in grass or the woods. Check the places ticks love to hide in your pits (under arms, ears, between toes, and head)

Give a perfect groom for your pit bull before coming in on a light surface and look for ticks to fall.

Immediately fix an appointment with your vet, if your pit bull develops sudden loss of appetite, intermittent fever, limping and looking tired always. It is easy to defeat Lyme disease if it is diagnosed as early as possible. If it is not treated in right time, lyme disease will cause neurological issues and kidney damage.

Some vets are suggesting a product named "Canine Advantix", which will prevent ticks from biting your pitbulls. This will help your pitbull to escape from Lyme disease exposure.

At early stage of labor, the contractions are simple but they soon become firm and productive. The first puppy should be delivered within two hours, then subsequent pit bull puppies at intervals between ten and eight minutes.
Things to be seen while giving birth

Hearing a puppy cry, the mother retrieves it from where it has wandered and carries it back to the litter. Mothers will only respond to crying. If a youngster wanders off and does not cry, the mother may abandon it.

Most of the dog breeds do not start feeding their litter until after the last delivery. Make sure that there is one placenta delivered for each pit bull puppy.

As the bitch feeds her litter, she licks one of her puppies. She will lick each pit bull puppies' ano-genital area to initiate defecation and urination. The mother will consume all the body waste of the puppies for the next three weeks.

When to call a vet

You should let the vet know when a delivery is under way in case of any emergencies. Get medical advice if contractions have not begun within two hours of the water breaking, or if a puppy has not emerged after 15 minutes. Non-productive labor may mean a breech birth or large pit bull puppies. Cesarean delivery is common for breeds with small litters of puppies.

The mother should settle down after giving birth to puppies. It allows the litter to suckle together for the first time. Contact the vet if the mother cannot produce sufficient milk.

Pitbull- Is the dog everyone loves to hate?

"Boy Critical after Pitbull mauling", "Pit bull that bit officer is shot, killed" are the recent hit headlines in the print media. Do you think they are really worst as they have been projected? No... All depends on the owner.

If the owner wants his/her pitbull to be more ferocious, he/she will made them like that. Pit bulls are not for couch potatoes. This is the most abused breed of animals in this world. Believe it or not- Labrador Retriever has provided most bites in a year.

Pitbulls are not borne killers as media is projecting. You should know that human aggression is entirely different that of aggression toward other dogs or animals. The common trait of pit bull is dog aggression, not the human aggression. Improper breeding and training is the result for these two aggressions.

Study the factors like history of the breeder as well as how long can you spend with your dog per day before buying a pit bull pup. Proper care, love and training are the keys to successful raising of the pit bulls.

To bring good name to this breed, it is mandatory to educate the owners of these good dog that bad owners and ignorance are the two things that make these dogs dangerous. So, the perfect things to think the issue of aggressive and dangerous dogs are strict breeding regulations and responsible ownership.

The Role of Calcium in Your Dog's Diet

It is important for your dog's diet to contain all of the essential vitamins to ensure excellent health. One of the important nutrients in your dog's diet is calcium. When we think of calcium, strong teeth and bones come to mind. Your dog's diet should be rich in calcium to support healthy teeth and bones, but a delicate balance exist in relationship to calcium and your dog's diet.

It is possible to have too much or too little calcium in your dog's diet. When a dog's diet contains too little calcium, your dog may develop a condition called rickets. This condition creates soft bones that bend under the weight of your dog.

In contrast, too much calcium can create bone abnormalities, as well. Large breed dogs, for example, who are given too much calcium as puppies in their diet, will develop large bones that are low in density. Strength is a problem with such bones due to the large amount of calcium supplements.

When your dog's diet contains appropriate levels of calcium, such bone abnormalities occur infrequently. This is just one more reason to carefully select an appropriate diet for your dog. Always consult with your veterinarian to determine the best amount of calcium in your dog's diet.

Calcium plays an important role in your dog's diet, but other vitamins and nutrients work hand in hand with calcium. Some minerals are interdependent. Calcium happens to be one of such mineral nutrients.

Calcium works together with phosphorus. A balance of the two nutrients calcium and phosphorus must exist in a healthy ratio to ensure a dog diet that will maximize the potential advantages for your pet. Studies involving animal nutrition show that a ratio of 1.0 to 2.0 parts calcium should be coupled with 1.0 part phosphorus. When calcium and phosphorus ratios vary greatly from this range, bone troubles result.

Dog diets consisting exclusively of meats, will not provide the proper amount of calcium and phosphorus to create healthy bones. Such a diet results in a ratio of about 1.0 part calcium to 18 parts phosphorus. The range of absorption is where the trouble begins.

Vitamin D is another nutrient that influences the absorption of calcium and phosphorus. If a dog's diet lacks the appropriate amount of vitamin D, the other nutrients will not provide all the benefits to your pet. Excessive amounts of vitamin D can have toxic effects on your dog. It is imperative to maintain appropriate levels of vitamin D in your dog's diet. Again, feeding your dog food from a reputable company will allow you confidence in knowing that your dog's diet is healthy.

During pregnancy or when your dog is nursing, higher levels of calcium are important in your dog's diet. At this time, feed your pet extra amounts of a balanced dog food. You should not have to supplement your pet at this time.

Milk fever, or eclampsia, cannot be avoided with calcium supplements. Eclampsia is not a nutritional deficiency, but a metabolic condition that affects the dog after the pups have been born and begin nursing.

Avoid supplementing your dog's diet with calcium or other nutrients without specific discussion with your vet. When calcium, for example, is out of balance, health can truly be effected negatively. Feeding your dog a balanced diet is essential. Reputable dog food companies have researched animal nutrition to ensure the best possible health for your dog. Providing your dog's diet in a healthy, balanced formula may be the best way to take care of your pet.

FIVE EASY STEPS TO STOP YOUR PIT BULL PUPPY FROM CHEWING

You got your new pit bull puppy almost a week ago. In that time, the little beast has eaten three pairs of shoes, four of your favorite Stephen King novels ( He left Cujo alone… Maybe he is a fan too?), gnawed the trim around the bathroom doorway, chewed thru the power cord of your laptop and, just this morning, you found him gleefully chewing up your wallet with a side order of your credit cards. This is getting expensive really fast and starting to get dangerous for the pup also. Maybe it’s time we intervened?

So how do we handle this situation? Once again, we want to be sure our young charge is healthy to begin, so off to the vets office if you haven’t been recently.

There is a medical condition that can cause chewing in pups aside from the normal tendencies they have of chewing to explore their world. This illness is called Pica and causes your pet to eat non-food items in an attempt to deal with nausea. So please visit your veterinarian and make sure your animal has a clean bill of health.

The next step involves understanding that, while chewing is a normal and healthy part of any pup’s development, it has acceptable and unacceptable outlets. Puppies learn about their world thru chewing much the same as human children.

They use their senses to explore the new world, which lies before them and their tactile sense, and sense of taste is brought into play as they chew on various objects. Much like human children, pups also need our protection from the dangers that lurk in their explorations.

Electrical cords, needles, poisonous houseplants and household chemicals, even chocolate, all pose very real threats to your pet. It is your duty to protect the animal from these dangers.

Consistent training with the “NO” command can do this. No is a word your dog should learn early and respond to instantly. This one word has saved many dogs from many horrible fates.

The pup is trained by repeatedly using the “NO” command every time a situation occurs. If you pet is caught chewing on your shoes, say “NO” in an affirmative tone and take the item from the animal.

Do not let it become a game of tug-o-war. Rather, remove the item quickly or back up your “NO” with a spray from a water bottle, a loud clapping of the hands or a light but convincing tap on the nose.

This little diversion is usually enough to make a dog lose interest in whatever they may have been chewing on. Also, do not give chase to an animal chewing on an undesirable selection of chew toy. The will interpret this action to be a game and they will be most happy to play for hours on end.

Instead, calmly work your way towards the animal and then remove the object. For items that are habitually mistreated, a chemical additive such as Bitter Apple may be in order to impart a foul taste to the item and make it unpalatable for the animal to chew on. Crate Training is also effective to stop chewing behavior.

You do not want to completely destroy your dogs urge to chew however as this habit is healthy for them when exercised correctly. Instead, offer them suitable objects for their chewing pleasure.

Perhaps a dog toy ( For quieter households, remove any squeakers from the toy.) Rope toys and crunchy dog biscuits provide good outlets for a dog’s destructive behavior and also help to keep up the oral hygiene of your pet.

Also be aware that all animals are different. Your dog may react differently than another dog in a given situation. Some dogs develop aggressive stances upon attempts to remove an object from their possession. If your dog becomes aggressive and territorial, then professional assistance is highly recommended to avoid further problems or biting.

With these simple suggestions, you can insure your pups’ good health and the well being of your book collection. You might even find the time to spend some quality time reading Cujo again with your new best friend.

How To Control Pit Bull Allergies?

Has your pit bull started seeming itchy and chew until the hair fell out? Do you feel that there is something which does not seem to be right at this moment? Well these are perfect signals that you have started to doubt your pit bull is suffering from allergies.

Some pit bulls are notoriously allergic to chicken and wheat. If you swap his food to natural Nutro lamb and rice (no chicken or wheat) and allergies will go away. There is also a cheap hydra cortisone spray and shampoo that works wonders!

Apart from these simple diet modification and sprays, the pit bull allergies can readily be controlled by simple home remedies.

Due to pit bull allergy, your pit bull will develop skunk smell. Some of the pet owners are using tomato juice to mask this skunk smell. Well, I found a simple way of using tooth paste to dethrone the skunk smell from my pit bull.

Rub the toothpaste into the pit bull's coat after wetting the skin thoroughly. Wash it off perfectly after few hours of drying. I found this works nicely than the tomato juice.

Other Home remedies to control pit bull allergies include-

  • Apply skin So Soft oil twice daily
  • Washing the pit bull with oatmeal shampoo
  • Blotchy and irritated spots may be rubbed with diaper rash cream
  • Introduction of BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) dog diet
  • Using cornstarch powder

Once you have adopted these measures on your allergic pit bull, they won't chew any more and the allergies will be no more, plus the coat will be glossy and healthy.

Black Pit Bull Facts

Black pit bulls are the most preferred popular dog breeds among the dog lovers. But the sad thing is that this breed is under scrutiny as they are gaining its importance due to their illegal dog fighting circles.

Except the appearance the black pit bulls, they are one and the same as like that of other pits. As there are more illegal pit bull fighting are emerging in United States, most of the organizations are raising slogans against pit bull raising in homes. Even few peoples are claiming the ban for the pit bulls.

The black pit bulls are extensively preferred owing to the reason that they're having incredibly strong jaws, which will produce an extensive damage on the target.

There are numerous reports among the media about black pit bull mauling- which tarnishes the image of these pity pit bulls.

Pit bUlls are gentle in nature, which requires to be focused by the owners. Instead they're keen on developing the character of inflicting pain on other dogs and people.

The character of a black pit bull depends on the owner. If the owner wants to made this clay as a perfect pot they can or otherwise also possible. So, train them to treat the guests...

Are Pit bulls Really Pet Bulls?

Unless trained to attack humans through abusive methods or very poorly trained, Pit bulls are really good with fellow-dogs and humans. Pit bulls are perfect athletic partners and usually excel in obedience work.

Do you know these breeds are extremely affectionate? Yes!!! If you cuddle them, they love very much.

Today I am going to narrate two stories to show the loyalty of pit bull and the cruelty of some other breed than pit bulls.

One pit bull named "Chief" alias "KOYA" (big brother) killed a cobra that tried to attack a woman and got two bites near the jaw. An American Pit bull terrier- Chief, rescued Liberata la Victoria, 87, and her granddaughter Maria Victoria Fronteras from an attack of a cobra.(Read more here...) While dying the "chief" wagged its tail.

Eight month old boy was mauled and killed by a Doberman pinscher in Newyork. The dog was tranquilized and sent to animal care center.(Read more here...)

After seeing these news, do you think till pit bulls are the only breed that is causing damage to the human society. No!!! All the dogs- Dob, Rot, and GSD are equally dangerous to humans.

Owner responsibility plays an important role in raising the dogs as pets. It is the duty of the owners to train and socialize their dog irrespective of the breed to lead a smooth and safe life. Once you trained your pit bulls to behave well with people of all ages and in public situations, your pit bull is really a pet bull...
