Do you have time for training the pit bull?

There are two different ways of training the pit bull to make it behave properly and reduce their aggression.

One method is making the dog to follow the instructions by showing how to do it. The other method is life long training. The training starts when the puppy arrives home and the training lasts till the death of the animal. As the owner one must be prepared to allot 5-10-15 minutes per day.

The time allotted must remain the same all through the year. If that [time allotment] is not possible, then you can better think of other breed, not the pit bull terrier. The training is very, very essential as far as pit bulls are concerned. This training will reduce hell a lot of problem.

Are you the one who buys pit bull to impress people?

Learn About Pitbull Mix

There are plenty of breeds and pitbull mixes that are often confused with the pitbulls. In some bite cases, the dogs were reported to be pitbull. But in reality the dog that involved in biting is not the pitbull but some other breed which is mistaken as pitbull.

The picture near-by is the mixer between pitbull and a chocolate labarador. In fact the pitbulls are bred for the temperament and attitude and not for the appearance. This is the reason for the various appearances of the pitbull breed. As the result these pitbulls resemble many breeds and pitbull mixes.

The color, height, marking, weight etc of the other dogs resemble the pitbull in every detail. The standard for pitbull permits variation which is not the case with other breeds. In spite of the variation permitted in the pitbull breed standard, certain physical requirements are must.

These standards are specified by the people who have understood the dog very well by spending many years with the pitbulls. These standards had been adopted after approved by the national organizations.

The breeders must understand the standards very well and try to produce perfect or real pitbull. The ethical breeders aim to produce the perfect pitbull while the unethical lot doesn't care much about the standards of the pitbull which is why people see much pitbull mix.

In order to understand the pitbull mix better one must understand the different pitbull breed standards. There are three different pitbull breed standards. They are United Kennel Club standard [UKC], American Kennel Club standard [AKC], and American dog breeders association standard. The AKC and UKC standards are almost same.

UKC Standards

If one doesn't want to get fooled by the pitbull mix, he/she must know the UKC pitbull standard. As per this standard the dog must be solidly built, medium sized and should have well defined smooth muscle and short coat. The dog must be powerful and athletic .

The body of the pitbull must be longer than height. Half of the pitbulls height [at withers] and the length of the front leg must be the same. The head of the dog must be medium sized, the skull must be flat, and the muzzle must be deep and wide. The ears of the dog must be small to medium. The ears may be cropped or natural. The tail must be short. The base of the tail will be thick and should tapers gradually.

The color and the patters can vary and there is no specific color for the pitbull. In total the dog must not look bulky or rangy or fine-boned, or muscle bound. Flews in muzzle, weak lower jaw, and snipey muzzle all suggest pitbull mix.

The pitbull with wry mouth, missing teeth, overshot bite or undershot will be considered as pitbull mix only. Pit-bull with bulging eyes and the difference in color between the eyes suggest that they belong to pitbull mix category.
